EDDIE Hackathon: Energy Data in Action
The first EDDIE Hackathon has successfully taken place at the University of Vienna, bringing together students, researchers and the EDDIE project team to explore how trusted energy data sharing can support the future of Europe's energy system.
Integrated into a university course, the hackathon provided students with the opportunity to work on real-world challenges related to data-driven energy ecosystems. Throughout the event, participants explored how energy data can be shared, accessed and reused in secure, interoperable and trustworthy ways, while developing innovative concepts that address current challenges in the energy sector.

Working in teams, the students combined technical knowledge with creative thinking to develop ideas that demonstrate the potential of trusted data spaces for the energy transition. Their projects highlighted the importance of interoperability, transparency and secure data exchange as key enablers for smarter and more sustainable energy systems.
The hackathon also offered participants valuable insights into the objectives of the EDDIE project and the broader European vision of data spaces. By connecting academic learning with practical challenges, students gained first-hand experience in applying their knowledge to topics that are becoming increasingly relevant for the digitalisation of the energy sector.
We were particularly impressed by the enthusiasm, creativity and high level of engagement shown by all participants. Their innovative approaches and fresh perspectives once again demonstrated how important it is to involve the next generation of experts in shaping Europe's digital and energy future.
A sincere thank you goes to all students who took part, as well as to the University of Vienna for the excellent collaboration and for integrating the hackathon into its academic programme.
This marks the first of two EDDIE hackathons planned within the project. We are already looking forward to welcoming the next group of participants and continuing to foster innovation, collaboration and practical experience in trusted energy data sharing.
