by EDDIE
The First International Workshop on Empowering Energy Literacy - HCI Strategies for Accessible Data Engagement (EEL-HCI2024), was organised by the coordinating institution, the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria: Marc Kurz, Oliver Hödl, Georg Hartner, Christoph Schaffer, Stefan Grünberger, and Shievam Kashyap. The workshop focused on finding and discussing Human Computer Interaction (HCI) strategies to make energy data more accessible to the public, encouraging a more conscious use of energy through innovative, user-friendly interfaces and tools. The workshop was introduced and moderated by the development lead of EDDIE, Prof. Marc Kurz. The project coordinator of EDDIE, Prof. Oliver Hödl, held a keynote speech on European energy data interoperability from a human-centred perspective.
One contribution to the workshop from the scientific community came from the EDDIE partner University of Vienna: Nikolas Zechner, Florian Güldenpfennig, Lionel Thalmann, and Joachim Zeiß. The presentation by Nikolas Zechner aimed on further exploring the use of energy-data analytics to enhance energy awareness, particularly through the design of web applications that help users better understand and act upon their energy consumption data.
The workshop enabled a rich dialogue and offered actionable insights into how HCI can play a crucial role in promoting energy literacy. The All workshop presentations and the following discussions among all participants marked a significant step forward in engaging the public with energy data in ways that are both intuitive and empowering.
